HOW DOES IT WORK?

The course goes on for 5 weeks

  • As soon as you sign up you'll receive an e-mail with the first shirt story. Every week for 5 weeks you’ll then receive a short story in PDF, along with a Literary Activity (introduction to the author and their writing style + questions for you to think and think deeper).
  • 5 days after receiving the short story you'll receive another e-mail, giving you access to a literature video lesson in which I discuss the literary activity with you, offering interpretative possibilities for reading the short story, along with extra contextual information to enrich your reading experience.

HOW DO I FOLLOW THE COURSE?

This is a 100% online course. You'll receive weekly e-mails with the short story, activity and lesson of the week, but it is up to you to plan the best schedule that fits in your routine. You can follow the lessons at your own pace, and you’ll have lifetime access to the material on the Books & Culture course platform.

You'll also be invited to join a private Facebook group in which the other students in this course and I will share thoughts about the literary pieces, engaging in a magical literary conversation that crosses geographical boundaries!

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

1. Is there a specific date to start this course?

No. You can choose when you want to start this literary journey. You'll receive weekly e-mails during 5 weeks, but it's up to you to decide when you want to read the stories and watch the lessons!

2. How much time do I need to dedicate to this course?

Every week you are expected to read one short story, think about the questions in the Literary Activity and watch the literature video lesson. You will receive the short stories in PDF via e-mail. The short stories are between 4 and 12 pages long. The video lessons last around 1 hour.

3. What if I run behind and cannot complete the tasks for the week?

No worries! This is supposed to be a fun literary journey. Following the rhythm of the course (1 story a week), you'll be able to engage in conversation with the other members of the course in our private Facebook community. However, if that does not fit with your schedule, you can always follow the course at your own pace. You can take as much time as you need to go over the stories, activities and video lessons. You'll have lifetime access to the course in the Books & Culture online platform.

4. What are the titles of the short stories?

You will go on a literary journey from author to author every week. A little suspense is part of the fun, so I won't tell you the names of the authors or the titles of the stories you'll read. But I can say this: these are all classic pieces of literature, written by world-renowned authors from the 19th and 20th centuries. And here is another tip: you'll be visiting New Zealand, Ireland, United States, Rome and England through the pages of the stories!

Fernanda has a sunny disposition which many lecturers in the literary field lack, this encourages you to become excited about classic literature. Through these programs I have learned so much more about myself than I had expected, I have unlocked a potential that had laid dormant.

Sonia

My reading just got bumped up to a whole new level after taking Fernanda’s course. She is passionate and it rubbed off on me. I approach my books with a very close look now.

I love that you have an academic approach and are teaching the fundamentals of literary analysis, yet you do it in such an accessible and approachable way - it's not intimidating at all.
